Treatment may include hands-on therapy alongside targeted exercises, movement guidance, and education. Rehabilitation focuses on building strength, mobility, and resilience over time, helping you move well and stay well rather than relying on ongoing treatment.
Symptom guide
Stretches for lower back pain
Lower back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek treatment, yet it’s rarely caused by one single structure or issue. In most cases, it’s the result of a combination of load, movement habits, strength, mobility, stress, and recovery. The good news is that for the vast majority of people, lower back pain is not dangerous and can be improved with the right approach.
How to use the stretch video
The stretches are designed to be simple and adaptable. Move slowly, breathe steadily, and stay within a comfortable, controlled range. Mild discomfort can be normal, but avoid sharp or worsening pain. Focus on consistency rather than intensity, and remember that some stretches will feel more useful to your body than others — that’s completely normal.

Important: When to not use this guide and seek medical attention
This guide is intended for common, non-specific lower back pain. Do not continue and seek urgent medical attention if you have any of the following symptoms:
New or worsening numbness or altered sensation around the groin and saddle region.
Changes to bladder or bowel control, including difficulty starting or stopping urination, loss of control, or new constipation without a clear cause.
Progressive weakness in one or both legs, or difficulty walking that is worsening.
Severe, unrelenting back pain that is not eased by rest or position and is rapidly worsening.
Back pain following a significant trauma (e.g. fall, accident).
Back pain accompanied by fever, unexplained weight loss, night sweats, or feeling generally unwell.
These symptoms may require immediate medical assessment. If you’re unsure whether your symptoms are a red flag, it’s always safer to seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional before continuing with exercises or stretches.
how we can help
Our approach
Our approach is grounded in clarity and understanding. We look beyond symptoms to understand how your body moves, adapts, and responds to daily demands, then provide clear guidance to help you manage your back with confidence. Rather than quick fixes, we focus on simple, tailored movement and education that supports long-term resilience and a return to the activities that matter to you.
Case history
We start by listening. Your case history helps us understand your symptoms in context — how and when the pain started, what aggravates or eases it, your work, activity levels, previous injuries, and overall health. This gives clarity around contributing factors and guides the rest of the assessment.
Assessment & diagnosis
A thorough physical assessment looks at how your spine and surrounding joints move, how muscles are working, and how your body handles load. From this, we form a clear working diagnosis and explain what’s driving your pain in a way that makes sense, without unnecessary jargon or fear.
Management plan & goal setting
Together, we create a plan that fits your life. This includes setting realistic, meaningful goals — whether that’s reducing pain, improving confidence in movement, or returning to sport, work, or exercise. You’ll understand what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and what to expect.
